My point is (even if it is a netiquette), How many people do you know in
the "business world" (that have email) that start their signatures with
"-- "?  (even less for people that stay at home on their computers)

Of all the people I know that do that, I can probably count them on 1
hand. (Not to say that it's wrong or anything)  My assumption is that
this is something that started on Usenet and someone decided it would be
great for emails also.  I've noted many "netiquettes" before, but never
seen that one.  Usenet posters are like 1% of the world's population (if
even that).  So I can understand how this has not become widely
popular/known.  You can't assume that everyone wants to know what proper
netiquettes are.
