You actually need an FXO here. Bruce is on track. You only connect a terminal (a phone set) to an FXS device (Foreign Exchange Station) -- and you use your FXO device to connect your Asterisk or PBX to the RJ11 jack providing a dialtone, hence you need to connect to a Foreign Exchange Office - FXO.

Can't comment about the Audio Codes though I heard its a good product. Can't comment on GXW4104 as I have not used it. But SPA8800 has excellent echo cancellation and also T38 support (FXO to Asterisk to FAX devices internally). I've had nothing but good results and success with Linksys/Cisco units with zero items returned.

Cheers!
Reza.

FXO? Phone companies usually provide FXS. It's the PBX end that provides FXO.
