Somehow my last message didn't go to the list.... Repy, this morning at 10:48 EST ============= Thanks, for the tips. My IRQs are 0,1,2,8,10,11,14 only with acpi & eth0 sharing 11. Does that mean apic is involved when there are more than one device on an irq ? How could I force either one to another unused irq ?
I d/l the tarball and extracted it all in a windows box (because I have gobs of HD space there). 1. I have been in many of the subfolders looking for the boot options but have not found them yet, got any clues where to look ? 2. To make a iso, I assume I'll need a linux system on the HD. I found many scripts for building (makefile). It has been over 10 years since I used makefiles, do I simply issue "geniso" at the linux prompt and it takes it from there and builds the whole thing ? ( I need the generic 586 model) I have tried to get the IDE-CF adapter to be recognized as a hard drive but so far I am unsuccessful. The mother board wont recognize any CHS I try to enter. Auto does not work. Autodetect drives does not find it either. I have instructions on formatting the CF card, but need recognition first. The install of astlinux needs a drive # with a partition to drop into. The CF card is PNY 32Mb from a camera. I deleted the pictures and plugged into the adapter and into the IDE channel. Rich Sias ========== Now I have found the kernal boot parameter documentation. I needed to uncompress the linux2.6.13... item and go to the documentation subfolder. Now after experimenting a while, it seems that bzimage needs a "root=" first before anything else. I even entered "bzimage" by itself and it was upset that root= was set to <NULL>. I tried "root=", "root=/tmp/root", and "root=/" similar error messages pop up. It seems I am not using the root= parameter properly. I just want to enter the default used by astlinux and try turning off the apic. --------- the error lines ------------ VFS: Cannot open root device "/tmp/root" or unknown-block(0,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) So what is the default "root device" and what do I type after the root=? In the meanwhile I will search for info on how to set the root= boot option. So far I have found a lot of unrealted info that is not helpful yet.
