All booted better, i.e. no apic conflicts with the eth0 card. HOWEVER when I tried to enter kernel boot parameters, nothing would work. Just typing in the kernel name was enough to set off the triplicate error set fussing about the root= problem. So I tried with my live Knoppix CD and type in knoppix with no other parameters. Worked. Tried Knoppix with selected parameters. Worked. Tried same parameters with astlinux, nope! on all five machines.
Here are the 3 errors set that always appears with any kind of parameter passing even just the kernel name only! I Then burned a new CD with 0.3.0 iso file and tried that one. Yep, all 5 machines again spit out same error format with any attempt to pass kernel boot parameters. Kristian ( and others too) could you try CD boot and type in some boot adjust parameters and see if you can get past these style of errors ? Tell me how if you do.
