Re: Question about vgstorm games.

That is completely not true. You can interrupt sapi voices by a simple press of ctrl in most, if not all VG storm games. Also, again saying, it's  not about Aaron liking or hating something, it's about having a great experience. We on this forum know the technical side of things and know that you cannot detect when a screen reader stops speaking, but that does not mean every person buying the game does, nor does it mean that every person even knows why this detection is necessary. In addition to that, the game still would not work with screen readers such as Jaws, so again, more support questions to answer and more blame for something that's not even your fault. It works with NVDA, but this brings up a question of why NVDA and not Jaws, which is yet again you as a developer cannot do anything about. You can install keyhook which causes problems on some Windows versions. Also, I am not sure about this, but I think Aaron even mentioned when he added this to Manamon that he did not even know the game will work better with NVDA. Sure, this all might seem not important to you, but a paid product does not need updates, does not need expansions, but it sure needs to be stable in as many environments as possible. I am glad he added it to Manamon with a disclaimer when you enable it, it's a right thing to do but I don't blame him for being against it. It would not work in AAC, and in Manamon it does work with delays as I said. So now look at this Manamon example: You are playing an online game against somebody using a screen reader, and you are using Sapi. When you do a multy hit attack, it will be faster compared to the other person, and you are probably not even aware it is because of a screen reader being in use and thus will think by default that the game is slow when playing online.
Edit: I should also bring up another example with Manamon, where screen reader users have a major advantage over those using SAPI and it is even considered cheating, fortunately it does not have anything to do with the online mode. Go to the arcade, and play the math game. With a screen reader active, you will first hear the calculation, and you have to press enter for the timer to start, after which you can input the result. With sapi, you hear the calculation, and after your synth is done speaking the timer starts. Why is this an issue? Simple: Before pressing enter, you can easily look up the result and just type it in. There is no way to solve this, you can do it the way CP does it and wait a little before the timer, but you never know how much to wait. If you make it too long, users with fast speech rates will find it very slow and might be able to cheat as well, and if you wait too little users with slow rates will find the game unplayable. Hopefully after some of these explanations you can understand why that is the way it is.
