Re: What do you think of this video?
I'm plenty outraged by the sort of comments I heard from white people in this video, but there are a few reasons why I didn't pounce on that aspect of things immediately.
1. I saw this for what it was. Trust me when I say that I've seen most right and center talking-points, most of them more than twice, and I know what to expect and how -not to respond.
2. Given the source of the video, I'm not even sure if these people are liberals. What's the proof? They're just white people who hold ignorant viewpoints and have little tact. As such, why waste energy?
3. I tend to engage more directly with things and people I can deal with. If you're a friend of mine, or a family member, or you make a post here that I can respond to and which you may later be able and willing to engage with, I'm apt to show my teeth, as it were. But for nameless, faceless people who just hold repellent viewpoints, I don't mind holding out in order to have you confess the reason for your posting this content. And I was right to do it. You leapt and you missed, at least where I'm concerned.
I believe you're trying to prove that we only get outraged when we're told to, when this could not be further from the truth. As a blind person, you know how sometimes things just aren't worth getting into a frothing rage about? Well, this video qualifies. Now, if I heard someone I know making these statements, you'd better believe I'd speak up. It's the effort vs. the measurable result. We don't have limitless energy.
I'm also still waiting for proof that liberals or leftists do not, in fact, want things to change.
