Forget whether or not Trump was healthy or not. I hope someone has a better take on him just shutting down the stimulus talks until after the election. My fear just went from existential to very immediate, because it's very hard for me to see this as anything other than him having lost big by getting Covid, and then deciding that he's got nothing to lose so let's try holding the economy hostage and see what happens. I doubt walking away from this particular table is going to get him even close to what he's hoping it will. The economy is still tanking, all the "improvement" has just been "well we're tanking less than we were, so yay", and that's a very frightening thing to have done while that's still the case, and makes me wonder what the hell he might try next.
I don't want a leader who goes to the hospital for a few days, says "we really need that stimulus", probably has people lying about his health on his behalf, leaves the hospital with plans while almost certainly still infectious, then shuts down the stimulus talks he *asked for* until after the election for some reason known only to him. I just kind of ran out of fucks for people arguing for him, unless someone has really good evidence that this is somehow overblown or something, my willingness to try to see middle ground with Trump voters who still support him after this particular move is gone.
I don't think the democrats are innocent when it comes to compromising on the stimulus talks, but we literally have one person who can shut this down by ragequitting, he just did, and this will literally leave people starving for longer than they otherwise would have. Even if this is some baroque bluff where he's hoping to get something specific and then he's going to change his mind, that's nothing but cruel.
