Re: just got a Iphone6 plus, cases and questions

My problem sebby is as I see it "security!" is the only advantage that post xp windows has, and it is just not tangible enough, not in comparison to giving up mostly easy compatibility with 20 years of software and an interface I am most comfortable with.

If security is that big a deal , why the hell can't microsoft make a more secure xp? oh yes, because if they obsolete everything and make everybody paranoid they can sell more new machines. That is the way it seems to me.

I would have no problem with simply a more secure xp that did nothing exceptionally different like you describe snow leopardd, indeed that was exactly what ms did with the various xp service packs and it worked fine. Ultimately, an "upgrade" should have the functionality of the previous version, and giving up compatibility with the last 20 years of software in favour of just a flashy interface and safety from the so called security bogey man just doesn't seem worth it, not when the newer systems don't particularly do anything else worth while other than this business of security.

I also confess I don't like the modern interface convention generally of chucking as much at the screen as possible. IN the days of xp the idea with interfaces was to compartmentalize information and give the user access to what info they wanted at each time. That is why I have every menu in xp set to work as a list, and can find literally any file on my computer in seconds. The modern convention however, which exists for many things not just windows, is to sprawl information across the screen so that a sighted person can get a quick skim overview. this is true of Itunes, interfaces for tvs and tablets and even console menus. However another annoying modern interface factor is that the interface is no longer customizable, that you get what your given and like it. Personally, I like to compartmentalize information, heck even on my Iphone I have lots of fol ders and sub folders (and indeed would rather have them in a cogent order than just sprawled all over the place, though unfortunately drag and drop with Vo is not my favourite part of Ios).

For a blind person with no ability for instant overview this sprawl of crammed information is much harder to live with, which is why so many blind ios users basically just flick their way through the interface.

Again, with xp microsoft maintained compatibility with the style of previous windows and gave people a choice, --- well not anymore.

Now I have tried windows 7, and I do know myself that I am adaptable enough to learn to live with a new interface, ---- however why should! I when the system it belongs to buggers compatibility and has no other practical bennifits besides "security!"

As to pc's and long life, well I've run this one sinse 2008, and thanks to using Pc tuneup for defrags it works fine, indeed the only program that ever runs into pr oblems is ie8, and that more due to web sites doing stupid things than the program itself going wrong, (which wouldn't be a problem if Microsoft just offered the support they should).

Oh, and before anyone asks, I have tried to run firefox several times and each time it has crashed so much it was unusable, as well as being a terrible memory hog.

I can see the advantage in a browser upgrade sinse a couple of websites are ceasing to work on ie8 (sendspace recently stopped), even if I resent the fact that it would not be needed if Ms did their job properly, still again whether this warrents me going through all the stupidity of a new os and kissing compatibility goodbye I am not sure, I might just use safari on my Iphone to access those sites instead.
