I read this thread with eyes wide open - not sure what the big fuss is about.
I dont make sell or mod equipment - but i do buy lots of it. I have owned an SB1, SB2 ,SB3, Bolder modded SB2 with seperate power supply, a extrnal cow dac for the SB1, and finally a TRANSPORTER I run these all with FLAC through a Classe 201 amp to a pair of Theil 2.3 speakers. The Transporter goes directly with balanced out to the amp. Bottom line is that along the way the sound has goten better and better. Amp already burned in and not a factor. As to the ears - The transporter blows all the other solutions away. I hear more new sounds in the music than ever before - (using Diana Krall, Dire Straights Love over Gold and Handel as benchmarks) The next best is the modded SB2 - an upgrade well worth the money for me. The external DAC was applied to the SB1 which didnt meet the quality of the sb2 + bolder mod, although it was better than the raw SB1 and SB2. The sb1 - like the first hit a drug - got me hooked. Now I have the transporter and wont go back. It is awesome and well worth the moeny to me. I have SB3's feeding the rest of the house (bedroom, dining room and study) and they feed into systems that I cant tell the difference with - so we have reached a level of nirvana in my house and have since turned to lala.com to help expand the collection. PS had to build a 2 TB server to do this and run my web sites.
