Well not like John Atkinson does, but I listened at similar SPL's and the difference is imminent. It's correct that the balanced output from the DAC-1 is way way louder than the single ended, but not the way it comes from the factory. There's an output setting controlled by jumpers, which at factory setting sets the XLR output 16dB lower (I think), and that makes them about similar in level. If you remove the jumpers and play at the full level it seems like the bass is getting tighter from the DAC, but I'm not sure. I really don't care...
