You can't trust your ears. Maybe not for volume balancing but once you did that, "your" ears are the only thing you can trust. If they sound no different to you then why spend the money on the transformer. I'm sure it's great and with the proper system is worth every penny. But in your case I agree that you would be better served in saving for speakers in the future. It's all about what you like and not someone telling you what you should hear.
