Don't know why your dealer would discourage you from giving these a try unless there were some specifics about your musical tastes and room that would suggest avoiding them. Though they're a fabulous speaker, we were discouraged from considering Magnepans for reasons of our room configuration...and I believe that was appropriate. While the VA speakers appear to be, for us, the right ones...I could easily see that someone who's an afficiando of metal, hard rock, hip-hop, etc. would consider the VA's too mellow.
