I can't speak from first-hand experience but a modestly-priced ($1000) tube amp that a number of people seem to like is the Decware Super Zen Triode: http://www.decware.com/newsite/SE84CKC.html
It's very low power so you'd need to use some high efficiency speakers, e.g. 92+ dB.
