Wow you're a better man than I am. I just tried to read Dudley's piece
on the magnetic cables and I could only get half way before my head
began to pulsate so I stopped before it completely exploded. Now
Dudley's pretty much solidly in the audiophile voodoo camp but these
cables managed to be even too much voodoo for him, a pretty impressive
feat. At least Dudley posed a few good questions, unfortunately he let
the manufacturer get away with what basically amounted to the "it's
quantum mechanics, stupid" excuse for totally bogus science. The "it's
quantum mechanics, stupid" line is a dead give away that's what is being
sold is nothing but pure snake oil.

So the one big question which I take away from both these "reviews" is:
Where the f*&k are Stereophile's oh so holy measurements on these two
items (the Melco N1A and these magnetic cables)? I would think that
there is simple test to measure for bit perfect output (for the Melco
N1A) and another for the effect of a cable on the signal (for the
magnetic cables). As I've stated countless times before, Stereophile
only uses measurements when it suits their purposes. If the measurements
reinforce what is written in the review, it's "see that's why
measurements are so important" and if the measurements contradict the
reviewer's findings (as is the case for almost all tube equipment) then
it's "well measurements are not that important". Kind of reminds me of
the hand of God - when the patient lives it's because of all the prayers
but if the patient dies, well God works in mysterious ways. Having
things both ways is truly a wonderful thing.
