>Cannot think of any others that would be this high It then becomes a denominators problem. i.e. Accident rate per flights, versus accident rate per hours flown, versus accident rate versus km's travelled, versus numbers of gliders, versus number of members in GFA.
A few years back I did an analysis of the fatality rate for gliding a found that the fatality rate (per km travelled) was worse than General Aviation, but less than riding a motorcycle. But this data was from 4 to 5 years back, I may need to revisit it. Looking at the data below, gliding does have fatality free years. Fatlities Going back to 1993 Year Fatalities 1993 0 1994 3 1995 2 1996 0 1997 2 1998 2 1999 0 2000 0 2001 0 2002 0 2003 0? 2004 1 2005 3 2006 3 2007 1 Let us not forget that not only are there fatalities, but long term injury (both physical and mental) to some of the accident surviviours. My thoughts with the loved one's of those killed or injured.
