Well, I just tried it (on a field gebirtstag :-).

It doesn't work when I try it from a fresh xemacs session (bbdb not started
yet). When it asks for the notes-field, it doesn't know of any of them but
"notes". If you select to search all, it does _search_ (and find) all,
though.
Doing the same from a bbdb started up already simply works fine for "all",
"notes" or whatever custom field I have.
