If you don't restrict people to the standard labels, most of the
problems you mention don't appear.  And there should be completion on
the label names.  (I can never remember whether the fax number at the
office is office-fax or fax-office.)

I think a different solution is required wrt i18n.  BBDB speaks so
much English already, adding a few more words won't be a problem, I
think.  Could you separate the storage names from the displayed names?
And provide a mechanism for translating the storage names (via
gettext, say)?

Maybe a variable listing the labels available by default would be
cool, then people could change that if they feel they have to remove
or add labels.
