It was never a hardship until recently. But now it's the principle of the thing. I paid for a "single user license" and now found out that what I really bought was a two-machine license.


You're right. It's the principle of the thing. A single user license, by logical reference, means that the application should be usable by one person on one machine at a time. The fact that Bare Bones goes beyond that, allowing two machines but not a third, is clearly ...um, actually, that seems pretty generous. Huh.

But I do agree with you that we are moving to an age where a "home license," as opposed to a single license, makes a lot of sense to have. Apple has a "Family Pack" for their OS X licensing, allowing 5 machines to be installed, and that seems like a reasonable limit that falls sensibly between the single license and the network/work type license. The limit of 5 machines is also used for iTunes Music Store purchases. That does make sense.

What doesn't make sense, to me at least, is confusing a single user license with a home/family license.
