Betsy, Don't laugh: PC-PINE
It's robust, standards compliant (unlike outlook or messenger), supports MAPI, you can use your mouse to launch attachments, you NEVER launch an attachment or run emailed code without doing it on purpose, it's fast, and it supports encrypted and authenticated IMAP and SMTP. Oh yeah: and it's free!!
