Okay, I may be making some progress.

Due to the WebUI crashing perl.exe, I queued up songs directly on the player
and left it running. I have been playing songs for the last couple of hours
without any problems.

One possibility therefore is that the the WebUI is causing the problem. I
usually use the Fishbone skin, and leave the browser open all the time. I
noticed when I was having the problem that I seemed to have many TCP
connections between my browser and perl.exe. Maybe this is a side effect of
the AJAX stuff that was added. Maybe it's a red herring, but at least I have
some other avenue to eliminate now.

Maybe the constant requests to update the now playing and current playlist
frames in the Fishbone skin cause some problem with connections not getting
closed properly?

I have moved all 3rd party plugins, including MHCPAN folder (required perl
modules for some of Michael Hergers plugins), and that fixed the perl.exe crash.

I have been running the Web UI using Default skin in Fishbone and haven't had
any song transition problems yet. I also notice that there seems to be just a
single TCP connection between Firefox and perl.exe (192.168.1.2:9000 <->
192.168.1.2:2580).
