Formula D is a game of risk management with a racing theme laid on top of it.
While there is a random factor, it's modulated by the dice themselves - If the d20 were numbered 1-20, then that'd be one thing. But it's numbered 11-20 twice. A good player knows his dice, what his odds of success are, and the condition of their car. A good player knows what risks to take and what risks not to take and lets that decide what gear they need to be in. A skilled player will beat an unskilled player significantly more often than he will lose to one - depending on the track.
