I too have been very confused by this behavior. May I suggest that if the
data can't be edited in the edit window, the window 1) should say so, and 2)
should not appear to allow editing, and 3) also should be called something
else? A comment at the top of the window saying something like "Please fix
these errors in your source text, then re-import" would save people like me
hours of frustration.
