Hi Craig -- For comparable U-locks, the combination locks seem to be viewed/rated similarly. For example, Kryptonite's Keeper 12 (keyed) and KryptoLok Combo are both 4" by 8" u-locks with 12mm or 13mm thick shackles. Kryptonite rates the combo version as a safety level of 8 while the key version is rated 7 (lower), and the combo lock has a $1250 anti- theft protection plan (assuming they pay), while the Keeper 12 is only $500. Similarly, Onguard has two similar u-locks, the 5010c (combo) and 5010 (keyed) both 4.5" by 9" and both either 12mm or 13mm thick shackle. Onguard offers $1501 guarantee against theft for both locks, and rate both locks similarly in terms of protection. Given how both lock companies rate the combination locks relative to similar keyed locks, I think the lock companies think the combination locks are just as safe as similar keyed locks. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Bicycle Lifestyle" group.
