Bill: With all due respect, it looks as if the Campy 10 speed is creating a lot of your constraints. Have you considered Shimano or dropping back to only 8 or 9 speeds? It seems you're trying to apply a racing product to a touring application when you say you prefer 36 spokes.
OTH, you may be like many of us here, just trying to put together the perfect combination for your application. This is a creative bunch, believe me! Harris would be one place to check as they have all sorts of interesting stuff plus a wealth of knowledge, thanks to Sheldon, at their fingertips. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/ Good luck with the project. dougP -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bill Taylor Sent: Friday, November 14, 2008 6:37 PM To: [email protected] Subject: {BL} Campagnolo 10 speed compatible, sealed bearing hubs? Hello All! Has anyone been able to get a Chris King, 'Classic Road' hub, to run on a Campy 10 speed, drive-train? Also, other than DT Swiss hubs, which at this time of year are in short supply, if at all available, does anyone know of, or can you recommend, a really good quality rear hub that uses sealed bearings, and, is compatible with a Campy, 10 speed drive train? Ideally, I'd like to go with a 36 spoke rear wheel, and a 32 spoke front wheel. However, as for the DT Swiss hubs, I've had to settle with 32 spoke wheels, both back and front. Given my size, weight, and the fact that this bike will accommodate a rear rack, I'm inclined to favour a slightly more robust, 36 spoke wheel. How do the White Industry hubs compare to the Chris King, DT Swiss, or even Phil Wood hubs? I know I could usually get a special gear cluster from Wheels Manufacturing, that although splined for Shimano, has spacing for and is therefore usable on a Campy 10 speed drive train; but, there's a notice on the Wheel Manufacturing web site that clearly states that their special gear cluster is not compatible with the Chris King hubs. ... just a little frustrating! I know I can get a 36 hole, Phil Wood hub that will accommodate a Wheels Manufacturing gear cluster, and therefore run it on a Campy 10 speed drive train, but, the Phil Wood hubs are about twice the weight of the Chris King, DT Swiss [240 model], and even the White Industries road hubs! Are there other brand names that I should be considering, in this endeavor? Also, does anyone know of a company that makes the actual free-hub, or drive shell, on which the gear cluster rides, and, that will allow one to adapt a Chris King hub, to a Campy 10 speed drive train? Thanks!
