Greetings: This report comes on behalf of Tiny (Keith Lee).
Yet another wonderful day at the Wetland!
A Merlin buzzed the north cell which sent the Red-winged Blackbirds into a
tizzy.
An American Kestrel upset the balance a "bit" also as did the Northern Harrier
which
made a number of passes over the wetland. She gave us an excellent opportunity
to see just how beautiful she really is. A Red-Tailed Hawk also made an
appearance.
Now for the less aggressive:
Flicker, Virginia Rails (at least 3), Blue Jay, Marsh Wren, Mallard, Greater
and Lesser
Yellowlegs, Blue-Winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, Chickadee, White-breasted
Nuthatch,
Moorhen, Song Sparrow, American Goldfinch, Mute Swans (the adults were in the
south cell
and the three babies in the north cell - although they do not look much like
babies anymore)
Morning Dove, Sora, Stilt Sandpipers (3), Wood Duck and a few Killdeer.
A special thanks to a couple from Ottawa who sullied us with a few names for the
Dragonflies: Lance-Tipped Darner, Autumn Meadowhawk, White-faced Meadowhawk,
Common Green Darner, Tule Bluet, Band-winged Meadowhawk. There was also
several butterflies
which will require looking through the books to make sure we have the right
names but an Eastern
Tailed Blue was seen by this couple.
As the season for the wetland winds down and the possibility of a permit
drawers near,
my reports for Tiny will end. What a treat it has been to keep everyone
up-to-date
on our Wetland. What a treat to have seen so many new individuals at the
wetland this year
and all the returnees.
Most sincerely
Maureen and Tiny
The wetland is located 7.2 kilometres off the eastbound 401 at exit 509.
Just follow the road through town. The wetland is on the southeast corner
as you come around a bend in the road.
