What is causing this problem?  We had to convert to text so I could read
that manual for my class, yesterday.

Really? I must have gotten lucky, then; I guess the bug was off
bothering you and left me alone! Yes, it is always with .doc files and
never any other file type.  HW absolutely has to fix all these Word
problems.
