Haven't you noticed a decline in symphonic scores recently? This really turns me off about some movies.Yes, although I've also noticed an interesting counter-trend. Symphonic scores for hour-long television seem to be getting better. I remember a time when every TV movie and drama series had a sappy, throwaway score. Now there are some really good composers doing TV music, like Christophe Beck who won an Emmy for his score for the Buffy episode "Becoming, Part 1," and W.G. Walden who has done great stuff on West Wing (I think he won an Emmy also).
