I only ever felt the need to go to Derwent Mouth Lock once - with a party of Israelis whose grasp of English was only just adequate. As the hand using the tannoy on the Thames trip boat said, when he wanted those standing to sit down as they were close to full and were manoeuvring to get on Westminster Pier. Would those that can understand me please sit down while the boat is being manoeuvred against the Pier and if you can't understand me go on doing just what you are doing cos no amount of me asking will make any difference! Those who understood cockney English were hooting with laughter. Trevor
