They might be a little faster enroute if they adopted the new locking technique
that a mother was explaining to her children at the bottom of Atherstone a
couple of weeks ago. It was a family on a Canaltime boat who had obviously
just taken the boat over.

We were coming down, the lock was nearly empty so I set it for them and
opened the gates. Not much thanks but an explaination to the kids, from Mum,
that when Dad got better with the boat they wouldn't have to do any of that as
he would be able to push the gates open with the boat! I was happy to explain
but she was obviously not going to listen to me so at that point I stood back
and let them get on with it.

What do they tell them on hand over??????

LOL - and, as I wrote in my previous mail, I think it's more like 12
hours a day.

Rosemary and I have been discussing the subject of our canal journeys
recently. Our first trip was around the Warwickshire Ring in a week -
that was just 10 years ago. Our most recent trip was around the
Warwickshire Ring (in the opposite direction) in a fortnight - we still
thought it was a bit much. Funny how times change!
