See this makes me feel better. That is the response that I hear a lot, "It was
reasonable" or "Time didn't feel short" etc.

Posts like yours here Eric, show that the CCIE is an exam and a test of a
person's peristence and determination. You were able to attack things you know,
look up things you didn't know and overall feel shall I say "comfortable" but
you also took into account things like speed and other areas that you need to
work on.

This is better than "Wahhhhh the lab is so hard, oh my god I can't read
anything there is no lab books, where are 2 monitors, everything is cluttered,
oh my god freak out"

Granted, I was guilty of that too I was thinking about the asthetics of how the
actual lab rather than the CONTENT of the lab. Instead of worrying about a
solid foundation on BGP or MULTICAST I was worried about the monitor size and
the work space and crap that doesn't matter. I mean sure, it affects you but
you have to overcome.

As a new CCIE RS candidate since Sep 2nd 2009 (when finished my CCNP) I was a
bit freaked out. Now I am calm, focused and know what I have to do.

Thanks again Eric for this, I feel MUCH better. I know you failed, but you know
what that will make you much better. I learn SO much from failure than I learn
from winning.

I want to win, but sometimes you got to lose in order to truly win. Wow, I just
came off sounding like zen or something. Well, that's my new signature now!!

All CCIE R&S candidates.  I recently attempted the R&S v4 lab.  It was my first
attempt and yes I didn't pass.  However, I believe the lab to be very
passable.  I did not seem limited on time, just limited on my experience with
the obscure rarely used commands and the ability to quickly find them in the
docs.  Also to be completely honest, I needed to improve my speed on the basic
configurations and attention to detail to give me more time for the real CCIE
stuff.  The troubleshooting section seemed very straight forward and didn't
seem constrained on time.   I believe a well prepared CCIE candidate should not
have a problem with the troubleshooting section.  Especially, someone who's
been working and troubleshooting routing problems for a couple of years.
Bottom line don't get discouraged.  My plan for my second attempt is to get
more 300 hours of more lab time and more experience finding stuff in the docs;
then give it another attempt.

But you really think that the new exam can be passed?

I know you are goint to say "yes"

But where is the proof?

Who has passed yet?  No one I think!

I guess that's a proof that Cisco went way over the top!

Reducing the time available for the exam to only 6 hours
and then giving you just a few minutes to solve all those
"imaginary" Troubleshooting problems, makes it more than discouraging!

Guys,

You have to go with where your passion is, not what is the easier road : )  If
you are working in an SP environment or you find those technologies to be your
passion than do SP.  If you are more into R&S in an enterprise network then go
R&S.  R&S will give you more updated technologies and what I believe to be a
broader scope of technology but that it not to say that it is "better" or
"worse" than any other track.  My advice stands -- Follow your passion and if
you work hard things will take care of themselves.

I am confused as well.Since new RS exam is getting harder to pass. But
SP is still passable .It seems SP is a little bitr easier than SP and
topics in SP much more popular.

On the other hand finding docs, labs in RS track is easier than everything.
