Ahh.  Boston the only place in the US where car insurance is more 
expensive then NJ.  I feel your pain.  But if you think about it for a 
second.  If you need to save 14K a year; that is basically $1167 a month 
without the benefit of any investment returns.  Putting that 1K in a 
savings account can yield you at least 1%. And $1167 is the average.

Let's say you get 2 paychecks a month.  You just need to save 1K a month 
and you are more then 80% of the way there.  I think that is within 
reason if you don't have a kid.

And the 100K number isn't important.  I just wondering if having 100K in 
cash is a realistic goal of someone 30 years old.  You would have 100K 
but Cameron is right.   It doens't really mean anything.

PS 3000 / yaer for 7 years means you get a 21K car.  A 21K car, I've 
been told, is substantially better then a 15K POS.  I accidentally used 
5 because that is the life of most car loans.
