I finally did break down and got used to Dreamweaver and now I find that I appreciate it much more than CF Studio for various reasons. I still have problems with it -- like why in the hell can't we get the _full_ file path for the file we're editing (not just the file name and one directory) displayed somewhere instead of having to hit ctrl+shift+s to look at the save-as dialog to figure out where the file is located?! Some of us work on multiple coppies/versions of the same codebase, ya know. Anyway... some years ago when I first started working with ColdFusion and I didn't have the cash for Homesite I did use notepad to work with CF3 for a while, and then moved to a little-known shareware editor called Anansi which I actually sprung the $30 to register. It was the best inexpensive project-based editor I could find at the time, in spite of not having any syntax highlighting. I'm sure I could go back to working with Notepad if I had to and not lose a ton of productivity in the process, though I wouldn't want to. Not losing much productivity has a lot to do with development style - I improve my productivity mostly with reuseable code that doesn't get added to the tag insight, etc. The loss of syntax highlighting and tag/function insight would still account for some loss of speed but I don't think it would be dramatic, given that I don't have insight for most of my tags or method calls anyway. What I would really miss from dreamweaver is the project management and synchronization features and multi-file search. In general on hearing someone say "he's really good, he still works in notepad", I think my (internal) response would be something like "no, that doesn't tell me he's good, that tells me you're a rube". s. isaac dealey 954.522.6080 new epoch : isn't it time for a change? add features without fixtures with the onTap open source framework http://www.fusiontap.com http://www.sys-con.com/author/?id=4806 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:157660 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
