I used to live near Lynchburg Virginia. That's where Jerry Falwell is
located. In the local schools around there, these same issues come up with
nauseating regularly. Creationism, school prayer etc., are all brought up on
a regular basis to the local school board by his followers. I'm not even
going to get into his shilling for the republican party.

It seems to me that they do not have any appreciation of the separation of
church and state, except when some decision negatively impacts them. For
instance church assets and properties are not taxed, unless they are used
for commercial or private interests. About 12 years ago the IRS made a
decision that part of the church was not tax exempt because the church ran a
for-profit travel agency. You should have heard the screams of outrage from
his followers about that. Many used the separation of church and state
arguments.
