I meant senior citizens - not seniors in high school.

So these rules apply to student groups only?  What if a group wanted to use
the gym for a basketball tournament at night (not a student group)?  How
would that work?

I do understand why a school club would need a teacher present.  I do not
understand why a group not affiliated with the school would.  Perhaps the
school chose to view this just as a group of students hanging out after
school who needed supervision - which does make sense.
