I say I can run a property development company to staggering profits
never having been a property developer. I say that this company:

http://www.bain.com

Gets their clients profits 30% about the S&P 500 and their consultants
have typically never worked in the industries they re-architect.

How can this be you say? How can you fix a business you have no
experience in? How can you manage a team of soldiers if you have been
in war?

Because well run endevours all have the same things in common: they're
SMART. Once you recognize that you can do anything. It's a great
life philosophy for jobs, home life, war, whatever. Once you do
things SMART then all you have to is execute which includes finding a
good team (and even when people do things SMART if they don't have a
good team that can execute, they'll fail).

As for time-bound, it means that given that you've chosen a specific
goal, you should be able to plan such that you'll finish by time x. A
good plan will, therefore, have some slop built into it for unforeseen
items and contingency paths for things that may happen, but not for
sure.

For Iraq what this meant was that they should've been able to achieve
their goal by time X and leave OR have a worked contingency plan to
exit should they not have met that goal.

They did not and do not. Thus the commander-in-chief has failed his
troops and should be removed from command.
