The "MSM" hasn't been covering it because of this thing called an
election going on; not that I would defend them, since I don't use
them for news.

But I agree that it's a tragedy the public is becoming deluded - but
in your direction, not mine!

If you're going to attack the MSM at least have your facts straight.
Here's been the effect of the MSM no longer covering Iraq:

* A recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that nearly half of
Americans -- 48 percent -- believe that the military effort in Iraq is
"going well." This is an 18 percent jump from a year ago.

* a new study found that public awareness of U.S. deaths in Iraq has
fallen since August 2007 when 54 percent of the public was able to
accurately say how many American soldiers had been killed in Iraq.
Now, just 28 percent are aware that the death count is about to reach
4,000.

So you see? With an 80% drop in MSM coverage, people are beginning to
believe you. You know, the bullshit version of truth; what happens
when take the truth away.

Because here's the reality:

* While hailing the passage of the provisional powers legislation as
"a landmark law," Gen. Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker -- not exactly
impartial observers -- warned that there could be poison pills hidden
in the fine print. Most of the contentious details, BTW, were tabled
for a later date.

* Only four of the 18 benchmarks set by the White House years ago have
been fully met, with another five only partially accomplished.

* Yes, the number of attacks *on American troops* has decreased, but
security *for Iraqis* has not, says a new report by the Government
Accountability Office.

* Right now there are about 60 attacks a day on U.S. troops and Iraqi
civilians. This is roughly the same as was occurring in the Spring of
2005 which means we're back to where we were 3 years ago.

* BUT! Killings seem to be on the rise again:
     - 18 people killed by a car bomb attack in Baghdad on Thursday
     - On Tuesday 16 people blown up on a bus between Basra and
Nasiriya, 10 killed in Kut, 5 in Duluiyah, with killings reported in
Karbala, Baquba, Hilla, Mosul, and Baghdad.
     - Over the week 12 Americans were killed.

* As we reach 4000 dead, here's what the deployment is doing to the troops:
     - Army chief of staff Gen. George Casey told the senate last
month, "The cumulative effects of the last six-plus years at war have
left our Army out of balance, consumed by the current fight and unable
to do the things we know we need to do to properly sustain our
all-volunteer force and restore our flexibility for an uncertain
future."
     - Army Secretary Pete Geren summed said, "We are consuming
readiness now, as quickly as we're building it."

So you see? The facts don't support your Utopian dreams - and with an
80% reduction in MSM coverage of Iraq, Americans are starting to
believe your dreams rather than the sad reality that FACTS support. I
think Senator Obama summed up Iraq well:

"The notion that somehow we have succeeded as a consequence of the
recent reductions in violence means that we have set the bar so low
it's buried in the sand at this point... We went from intolerable
levels of violence and a dysfunctional government to spikes and
horrific levels of violence and a dysfunctional government. And now,
two years later, we're back to intolerable levels of violence and a
dysfunctional government. And in the meantime, we have spent billions
of dollars, lost thousands of lives."
