Hardly. We have men and women in the line of fire over there to help keep
Iraq in one piece while they work out their differences. Iran and Syria are
pursuing destabilization in Iraq as a strategy against the U.S., and some
Saudi elements (who are rich enough to finance whatever they want) are
financing a huge jihadist movement. Essentially, if you are keeping score on
the geo-political map, we have removed the military/nationalist dictatorship
from Iraq and given the Iraqis the opportunity to replace it with a
government of their choosing, while neighboring countries and Al Qaeda in
particular are waging a war to destabilize Iraq as a means to defeat the U.S.

Again, in geo-political terms, we are taking on half the region, and we're
allied with the other half of the region (not exactly, but Tukey, Qatar,
Kuwait, UAE, Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia* and Egypt are either neutral or
allied with the U.S. in this conflict). Saudi has a big, privately financed
(although by people in the royal family) jihadist movement in Iraq.

The long and the short of it is that we are spending our people's lives and
our money so that regular Iraqis can have the chance to live in a free,
stable and prosperous country, governed by Iraqis elected by their fellow
citizens whose rights are protected by a written constitution.

You live in a peaceful democracy in a beautiful part of the world. Would you
want to live in a military dictatorship? I wouldn't. No one should have to
live in an un-free country. Without personal freedom, what do we have? Only
what other impose on us.
