Use the dealer websites to request a quote.  Often times you will find that
the internet manager will give you a better quote online than they will in
person.  Then, armed with that you can go and pit the dealers against one
another.  Haggle for addons/extras thrown in for free... Haggle on trade-in
price (that's how I got mine so cheap.  The invoice was for 24K and some
change, but I got 3500 more for my trade in than KBB had it listed at even
in perfect condition...).  Also, don't discount shopping in a different
state.  You really do need to do your homework, but they can be found.  

There are numerous threads about prius pricing/haggling on
http://priuschat.com.  It's really a required reference if you are thinking
about buying or you own a prius.  Lots of very talented engineering types on
there.
