horridly outmatched. Anyone can kick pretty much any soccer ball into
an unguarded net from 6 meters out. The controversy only shows up when
you are dealing with the extremes, when you have players at the top of
the game trying to get a very precise reaction from a ball at high
velocity.

There may be something going on with the ball, I don't know.
Redesigning the ball every 4 years still seems pretty weird to me, but
I understand that they want to have the ball change because Addidas
makes a hell of a lot of money putting out a new World Cup ball for
sale every 4 years.

As with most sports, I'd guess that the weather conditions and the
condition of the pitch (which has been a problem in some matches this
tourney) plays a bigger role in variation than the ball does. But
people like to bitch about the ball, it's tradition.

Fwiw, I seem to recall that Major League Baseball had this problem not
too long ago where new balls were suspect and there were big calls to
investigate and change them and such, so this problem isn't limited to
Fifa.
