You're lucky you got the Vista Home Edition.

My wife, who's the computer engineer (I'm an economics major) ... simply would
not touch Linux even with a pole much to my distress. So when I bought a HP
Pavillion machine as a replacement to our 3 year old pc (which she assembled
but too lazy to fix/upgrade) last year ... she forbade me to install linux and
just leave the pre-installed Windows Vista Starter Edition.
ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Do you know whats more irritating for me using that version of Vista? It only
allows you to run 3 application at the same time. So let's put this in
perspective ... so I have Yahoo Messenger running, then I have J running, then
I run Word to type something ... then I open up iTunes to listen to some music
while mucking around. Guess what? You can't open iTunes anymore because you
already got 3 application running. <much hair pulling at this point>

So in the end, I just upgraded it to Vista Business edition. I really wish I
can format it and just put gOS or Ubuntu in it.

Subject: [Jchat] Vista at the top and the beginning of the end

I bought a very cheap laptop recently and with it I got Vista even if I did not
want any M$ product.
Anyway then I decided to keep Vista to try it out.
Yesterday I was going to install a favorite game Sherlock I have used off and
on over the years.
It is very good for kids to learn about einsteins puzzle.
It is a Dos program and I have installed it in various flavors of Windows.
Not now in Vista.
It seems that Vista has abandoned Dos.
The recommendation I got was to install M$ Virtual Machine and start Dos there.
I retrieved M$ Virtual Machine only to discover it is not supported in the
Vista Home Edition.
I then looked for a new copy of Sherlock but for free was only a copy that
needed to be paid for.
Then I discovered a free program called
http://demonews.com/downloadget.php?id=1220&file=9&evp=724e590e7277748b7c21aa3bd609f6f2
It is actually quite good.
It is interesting that Vista does not support Dos anymore.
I guess a lot of programs will have problem running under Vista.
The majority of all Windows programs are really Dos programs.
I guess this fact will move a lot of people over to Linux.
