we had this convo on here a couple months ago....I am all for rescue
groups, I support their adgenda of trying to save lives, ect and many are
reasonable and fair in their requirements, restrictions and costs. If a
rescue group has to be out a couple hundred dollars to spay/neuter,
vacinate, transport, ect I can understand them needing to recoup operating
expenses. But just as their are bad breeders who give all of us breeders a
bad name, there are also bad rescue groups that give all rescue groups a
bad name. Our area does not see many pure breds in the county animal
shelters and we realy don't have very many small mixed breeds either. Not
that none ever are available, but if one does become available, they are
snatched up by small breed rescue groups and put into their program fast.
So what may start as a chi in a dog pound with a $35 adoption fee quickly
becomes a chi in a rescue group that needs a $300 adoption fee. I think
rescue groups would do a better service to allow dogs to stay in the
pounds long enough to give "regular" people a chance to adopt at fair
prices and spend their limited resources on rescuing dogs that are close
to being pts. And don't even get me started on shelters/groups that import
dogs from other areas because the size or breed isn't readily available in
their own area and then complain about the dog needing a home. I mean if
there are a lot of people in Ohio that want a pom and there are not enough
to fill the want, I am all for asking a shelter in MI if they have some
that are close to being pts and transporting them for those in oh that
want them....but if there are just as many people in mi that want that pom
I think it is a bad idea to take that pom some where else to "meet a
need". (all are examples of course, lol)
