I was involved in Basset Hound rescue for years and our fees were $50 when I started and 20 years later had gone up to $100. I burned out about 3 years ago so I don't know if they've raised them since then. Frequently for very senior or special needs dogs we'd waive the fee completely. Sandy

I tried several in this area to adopt a chi...fees up as high as $300. I was lucky and found one someone needed a new home for. I can afford the food, vet care, etc but not a $300 fee also. The shelters are over-run with the sweetest, most adorable little Chi's you ever saw...throw aways...there are not even close to enough adopters out there...they are being KILLED by the hundreds everyday.
