I think they'd rather put them down than adopt them for a reasonable fee. Sandy

Where do you live? You would never find such ridiculous fees at a shelter here _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sandra Wheeler Sent: Friday, August 13, 2010 4:53 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] (unknown) No, the $300 was at a regular county shelter. None were less than $150. Here in CA it is $65 and that includes shots and spay or nueter!!! You must have been looking at "Rescues". That is about as cheap as it gets!!!! I tried several in this area to adopt a chi...fees up as high as $300. I was lucky and found one someone needed a new home for. I can afford the food, vet care, etc but not a $300 fee also. The shelters are over-run with the sweetest, most adorable little Chi's you ever saw...throw aways...there are not even close to enough adopters out there...they are being KILLED by the hundreds everyday.
