The first issue of the Guide to Chodosh was mailed out by US mail during the week ending Sept 8. However, due to a labeling problem about 150 of the mailed Guides were returned by the post office. These should be remailed shortly. We apologize for this error. Those of you who are in a rush to get their printed Guide should call the Hot Line and leave their full names and addresses. We will try to mail you out a copy immediately. If you then receive a second copy later, please give it free of charge to someone else interested in Yoshon.

_The following are corrections to the new Guide _

The General Mills cereal table has a typographical error. The oats code for the middle row starting “Reeses Puffs” should have been Jul 1 08 NOT Jul 1 07.

Quaker Hot oats cereal produced in Canada and sold in the USA has the corrected Chodosh code of March 14 ‘09.

Clarification about Korn Bakery. All baked items produced by 15^th Ave Baking Corp under the labels of Korn, Brooklyn Kosher, Stern or Cohen are Yoshon under the hashgocho of the OK Labs even without a Yoshon label. The following are NOT Yoshon: the six grain breads, the bran muffins and the oatmeal cookies. There are retail bakeries in Brooklyn under the Korn name. These bakeries are not certified as being Yoshon.

Clarification about Zamick’s bakery: Any bread, even unwrapped and without a Yoshon label sold in the Zomick’s Bakery or can be definitely traced as being produced by Zomicks’s is Yoshon under the hashgocho of OK Labs.

Dependable Foods products. The following sold under the Dependable Label are all Yoshon under hashgocho of Rabbis M. B. Klein and B. Y. Taub at least until after sukkos. This list will be updated at that time: bread crumbs, all pasta, all noodles, egg barley, pearled barley, malt syrup, packed flour in 5, 6 and 7 pound bags (sifting of flour recommended), pie crust, wraps, studel leaves, high gluten bakery flour, patent bakery flour, whole wheat bakery flour, Wheatalax, semolina, durum flour, clear flour, breader, batter, matzo meal, all oat flour, oat cereal, farina. In addition the the above, Depedable sells Yoshon Kineret onion rings.

Kehila Kashrus of Brooklyn advised us of the following changes: (1) Essex on the Coney, 1359 Coney Island Ave, any breaded items are NOT Yoshon. (2) The listing of Zion Restaurant should be deleted from the Guide.

The Guide has products listed under the category of X meaning sofek, uncertainty whether the item is Chodosh or not. In several parts of the new Guide and in the index in the back, the X was printed instead as an X due to a typographical error,

Several people have called the Chodosh Hot Line regarding possible code changes in some products. We hope to update those codes in the near future.
