On my 34, there is a rubber stop on top of the quadrant, on centerline. It has hard stops on a laminated rib to either side on the bottom of the cockpit. There is no adjusting, it's an Edson system. I am at about 300 degrees of movement on the wheel from center to hard over. -Chris

The way our boats were designed, they don't need a ton of the mechanical advantage that increases the number of turns lock to lock to steer them--they are sweetly well-balanced and always fun to steer. On some boats, steering is like having an argument you're determined to win, but it takes a lot out of you. With our boats, steering is more like having a conversation with a beautiful woman before you make love. It is my routine to do a lock-to-lock check and return to centre beforeleaving the dock. Which could be a hold-over form the old days, mycruising boats had hydraulic steering gear.
