So here goes: :-) It sounds like one way or another, Glen landed with too much energy. If you porpoise '10 or 12 times' there has to be a lot of energy stored up to manage it. Only other possibility is that he failed to shut the throttle, but I don't think he'd make that mistake. Iced-up pitot system, maybe? Coupled with a cold-weather canopy config making things sound and feel different perhaps? Gee, I rarely ever look at the ASI any more, I can tell by how she acts and sounds how fast I'm going. But if I closed the lid, well, I'd be a mite confused. Yeah, a 'Coupe can be landed at cruise speed, but I wouldn't want to do it. It was squirrelly enough the time I forced it on at 90MPH that I'd not care to repeat the experience. That's just too fast for a little tricycle with 5-inch wheels. Mike asked how to avoid it... ...well, don't land too fast (but don't land too slow either). The 'Coupe is light on the pitch axis, light enough so if you get heavy-handed or panic, you may over-control. I make my best landings with two hands on the yoke, one pushing, one pulling, for very precise control and so I don't wave it up and down. And of course, if you take a bad bounce (or a second bounce) you go around just like your CFI told you. Assuming you haven't already bent it beyond hope. Above all, keep flying the plane all the way down. Don't haul back on the yoke and say a 'Hail Mary' like a 172 driver. It's a light airplane, and a lot like a tailwheel airplane in the sense that you need to stay on top of it as the little gusts and eddys make it move around.
