John, that is exactly what happens. It was like slow motion, like it
defied
gravity since I was not going very fast and yet it was hopping like a
jackrabbit! It was very quiet and then each time there was that thud.
When it quit I was going close to taxi speed. However, I am glad I did
not
keep flying the plane. The first 1 or 2 arcs were the worst and I really
wouldn't want to think about flying it after seeing the nose flex up and
down about 4 inches. I grabbed the switch and killed the mags after 3 or
4
arcs in order to try to save the engine if the gear collapsed, though the
prop kept turning. I wouldn't call what happened "bounces," though. It
was
really out of hand and once it started there wasn't much to be done. It
is
not bouncing on the gear, as you said, it is due to the springing of the
front and the nosegear throwing it back up. The elevator on the coupe was
so unresponsive I thought maybe the controls had broken. I went up and
down
so many times that I was able to try both holding back and trying to work
it. When it is going up and down that steep giving it power and trying to
keep flying might just make a worse accident, in a bad attitude. That
was
my perception of the possibilities when it happened. Maybe if it had
about
300 hp! GW
