Concerning upholstery- our Ercoupes DO NOT have to meet the fireproof requirements of FAR 23. If you read AC43.13's section on upholstery it says that aircraft certified under the C.A.R.s (that's us people with old airplanes) only have to have fire-resistant material. All upholstery material sold in any upholstery shop that is to be used in marine or automotive applications has to meet federal fire-resistant standards. You can be perfectly legal in using any auto upholstery shop's material, or having them make your interior for you. They do a good job and it's just as safe. And lets face it- your upholstery is not going to catch fire- the header tank is. What I plan on installing is a small Halon fire extinguisher.
