Guns and pressurized aircraft do not mix whether in a sky-marshal's hand
or
a crew members hand. It brings to mind an incident in a B-29, not in a war
zone. The gunsight was bolted into the plexiglass shelf with 5/16th bolts,
the gunner's seat to the floor with 3/8th bolts. A crack came into the
plexiglass sight port and the pressurization blew it out. The gun-sight,
the
gunner and seat was pulled from the airplane and anything loose in the
central gunner compartment was
sucked out the hole. The smallest hole in a pressurized compartment will
open the airplane up like a can opener. The martial arts thing would be
the
best bet, but then the terrorist has to be close enough for that to work.

| I agree with you, Wayne. I'm happy to hear that the armed sky marshalls
| will likely be back, but I'd like to know why there isn't a steel
reinforced
| door to the cockpit. I also think the pilot and first officer should
carry
| side arms. If there's unauthorized personnel in the cockpit, shoot
| (carefully, of course) first and ask questions later. The
responsibility
is
| too great.
