Thanks for the responses. Regarding "stay current", the Medical Certification Branch computer that tracks special issue medicals has been down for over a month and is not expected to be up for another week. I do not know how this affects the time frame for actual processing, I do know I sent in my paperwork 6 weeks ago and they said it would take a week just to tell me current status (current?). It has now been 1-1/2 weeks and no call with status. It seems they can't do anything in a timely way.
